This course is a gateway to deeper understanding of common obstacles in team radio use. The activities give students a clearer picture of radio concepts so that you can apply your knowledge to solve problems as they arise.
Prerequisites: Radio Communication Training 1, 2, and 3
Goal: understand and overcome common challenges to simple team radio setups
Topics covered:
two radio games (1 hour)
mounting radios to kit (30 mins)
propagation demonstrations with an SWR meter and tests (1 hour)
height and feed lines
appropriate antennas
hand position and counterpoise
surroundings, environment and terrain
mobile radios (including manpacks and base stations) (30 mins)
scanners and SDR (1 hour)
troubleshooting (1 hour)
identifying common issues
remediation and solutions
how to train, explain, assess, and retrain
This course doesn't cover Amateur Radio, which is largely a different topic and use case. Some may find this analysis useful if you're considering getting into Amateur Radio.
